Shelley’s Story:
My eldest Lewis who would be 9 now passed at away at only 11 weeks old, he was born with undetected tapvd ( total anomaly of the pulmonary drain). Then my 3rd son Mackenzie was born with detected hypoplastic left heart and sadly passed away. To date its been 2yrs since we lost Mackenzie and to be
honest it's all still, to this day, very raw in our family. As his mum have a lot of anger as to why my little gorgeous boy didn't get his new heart! selfish I know, but I’m also filled with regret - did we make the right choices at the right time? Could we have done more? As for our 5 year old son, we had to
explain to him that his brother is no longer with us, however being so close to his little brother he found it difficult to tell us how he felt. We still to this day, 2 years on do not fully know how he managed to get his head around what had happened to our family. In terms of support we were fortunate to have a
supporting family who were able to help with arrangements. However we have always wanted to have a family holiday since, have some delicate family time, but as we all Know bills Keep on coming so sadly we have never had the chance.
A lot is offered to those who get transplanted but not to those family's who are left shattered afterwards.
